Tobacco Smoking

Tobacco smoking refers to the practice of ingesting the smoke that is produced from burning tobacco in cigarettes, cigars and pipes. Smoking is one of the most common forms of consuming tobacco. Nicotine released from tobacco smoking in the body contains lead and other harmful chemicals.

Tobacco smoking kills millions of people worldwide and is one of the leading causes of lung cancer along with tuberculosis, arthritis and eye disease. What is even more shocking that a percentage of these deaths are due to “passive smoking” i.e. of non-smokers who are forcefully exposed to the cigarette smoke exhaled by smokers. Consumption of all forms of tobacco is harmful and there is no “safe level” of tobacco exposure.

Tobacco-specific Nitrosamines, or TNSA, are the most harmful cancer-causing substances in smokeless tobacco.
